Education & experience
Professional background
Dr. Shaw received his bachelor’s degree in genetics from Texas A&M University and began his career in research at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. After publishing multiple scientific articles, he discovered that his real passion was connecting with people and working with his hands, which led him to pursue dentistry.
Dr. Shaw graduated toward the top of his class at A.T. Still University’s dental school in St. Louis and fell in love with Missouri. He has served the local community since 2025 through Smiles of Hope and Lighthouse Church.
My strongest passion is helping people get out of pain.
Family & the outdoors
Outside the office
I travel home to Texas to spend time with my brothers and parents as often as I can. I love being outdoors and will accept almost any excuse to go hiking, camping, hunting or fishing—as long as I can bring someone else along.
I am still working on becoming a better bass fisherman, but I can catch enough catfish for a fish fry. I enjoy deer, squirrel and rabbit hunting, and I am also trying to learn the finer points of barbecue and smoking a good brisket. I enjoy talking and connecting with people, which is my polite way of warning you that I may occasionally talk your ear off.
What matters most
Faith, community & dentistry
Above all, the most important thing in my life is Jesus Christ. I was brought into my faith a couple of years ago, and I will not pester you about it, but if you ever want to talk about it, I am always more than happy to do so.
I have loved the Dexter community ever since I discovered it while volunteering during dental school through Smiles of Hope. We have a great team at the Dexter office with Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Beaird, and I am excited to work alongside everyone. In dentistry, my strongest passion is procedures that help people get out of pain, but I genuinely enjoy the full range of care. Whatever your dental needs or concerns may be, I am happy to help.
